When President Johnson signed into law the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act in the mid-sixties, a non-profit organization called the American Film Institute emerged. Two years later in 1969, the American Film Institute constructed their American Film Institute Conservatory. While AFI itself takes on the responsibility of promoting interest in American cinema, the conservatory goes one step further by training the next generation of filmmakers.
Training the Next Generation of Cinematic Masters
The AFI Conservatory is located in Griffith Park, near Hollywood, California. For the past thirty-eight years the conservatory has been responsible for the in-depth knowledge that today's directors, editors and producers utilize everyday to keep the world population entertained with fresh, innovative film material.
Success of American Film Institute Conservatory
With accreditation in art and design, the AFI Conservatory offers only one degree: a Master of Fine Arts. This type degree affords graduates recognition as a master of their craft in film, literature or the performing arts. Degrees earned at this prestigious learning institution open up unlimited opportunities to students that pass the challenge of attendance and graduation of the five-semester program. The professional respect of the AFI Conservatory degree is unparalleled.
Students must apply early and be at the top of their undergraduate "game," as hundreds of people apply every year, yet only about twenty-eight students are accepted into four of the disciplines and the remaining two will only accept fourteen. Degrees can be earned in the following areas: -Editing -Directing -Screenwriting -Producing -Production Design -Cinematography
Anything worth achieving in life is worth working hard for. During the two-and-a-half year curriculum, students will be challenged with multiple film projects. With a focus on their individual discipline, students can expect to get as much out of their education as they put into it, with minimal constraints on creativity.
